heaven from here



sometimes, these days, she wants to simply sail away: on a boat, on a cloud, to a faraway land or to paradise, to a distant place where men are mice and mice are men, to deliverance.

    This photo reminded me of one of my favorite Amsterdam stories. I was waiting by a bridge for Wade to come down from the hotel when I heard the most tortured sounds coming from the water. A kitten that I saw hanging out at a nearby cafe earlier apparently fell into the water. A friendly passerby jumped into one of the many boats tied to the bank and risked his dry clothes to rescue the poor thing and then walked on. It wasn't his kitten and he didn't wait to be thanked. He just swooped in for the rescue and continued on his way. A modern day superman. :)

    the good ship cumulus--i love it! the temptation to sail away is only too real to me. i lived on a sailboat for 6 months, and it was paradise. the sea is magical.
