truly unexpected tidings

sometimes i shoot all 36 exposures in the space of a single hour;
sometimes i collect my negatives from the shop and see a whole season reflected, reproduced in three dozen frames.
these forgotten images - the ones that cross borders (from norfolk to alkmaar to broek op langedijk, for example) and travel time - more than make up for the supreme frustration of endlessly half-finished rolls of film.
i'm off to see my best friend. my five favourite cameras have been fed and packed.
i'll be back on the 15th.

  1. That Ricoh makes good photos. But then so do you :-)
    Have fun, I'll miss you.

  2. Beautiful! Have a lovely time:)

  3. wonderful!! have a fantstic time :)
hmmmm, i think one of my cameras has a long forgotten roll of 36 that must be tended to ...

  4. truly yummy images! have fun....i look forward to your return and all the wonderful photogrpahs you will bless us with...

  5. I like more the firs and the last photo.
    good colors :)

  6. Have a good time; it was some while that you had a vacation, I think.
    Nice photos again!
Since going digital I miss the thrill of collecting photos at the shop. Maybe I should also take up the old Leica and the Minolta again.

  7. Such lovely scenery...
Enjoy your visit. I am, of course, looking forward to seeing the photos.

  8. Have a wonderful time! The beauty of your eye never ceases to amaze me. One of the best things about blogging has been able to pop over here over the last 3-1/2 years to be graced with your images (and words).

  9. So what are your 5 favourite cameras?

  10. well. my faithful and utterly dependable old nikon FE. my little ricoh Gr1s, which does so many things so well. my minolta autocord, which is the loveliest TLR i have ever handled (i wish i could scan its negatives instead of scanning its prints: so sharp!). my leica M6, which is superb, and worth all the pennies (even 2nd hand) i pinched to buy it last fall. and my 4 polaroid spirit, which does what i hope it will, every time. what are YOURS?

  11. i want to live in place where canals flow between the houses! really cool !
