cream of asparagus

we three had finished our starters. tante, though, who is three years shy of her 100th birthday, savoured her soup at her own sweet pace, and when she perceived the waiter approaching, intent on preparing our table for the next course, she chuckled into her spoon.

"take your time!", she muttered. "we old ladies are abominably slow". as the waiter turned on his heel, she sipped - unruffled - further.

we do love her.

  1. Now I do have to agree with this sweet lady, you should never rush cream of asparagus.

  3. This photo brings tears to my eyes. I've been sitting here trying to think of words, but instead I'll just tell you that. Tears in a joyful way at such profoundly deep beauty.

  5. She is great! And I suspect that being able to live at own pace has some role in being so young at 100.
