and now for something...different
"if you wait until you are sure, you will never take off the training wheels."
- unknown
i've had a holga for a while now, but its unfamiliarity and the price of film & developing kept me careful, and indecisive, and slow. i was sure, when i finally picked up the first prints yesterday, that most of the test roll would have to be written off as amateur bumbling.
i was right.
but wouldn't you know: the two acceptable images turned out to be one of bicycles...
...and one of boats.
tsk.
add one of café tables and chairs, and i would be totally predictable.

Hi Lynn,
ReplyDeleteLang geleden, mooi al die foto's, ik droom helemaal weg. Ik heb gelezen, dat een nieuwe baan heb,Gefeliciteerd!
veel liefs,
Kasia
But these are great shots nonetheless, Lynn. Count your blessings!
ReplyDeletePerfect! These shots are quitessential holland to me. The moody canal, the blur of the bikes. While commonly photographed, not commonly captured.
ReplyDeleteI think both shots are absolutely lovely! I like the smooth water and reflection of the boat in the water. Also, the colors of the water are so soft and spring-ish. Nice work!
ReplyDeletethese are awesome shots! especially the boats ... what settings did you use ?
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I'm inspired to get my holga out this weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the bicycle one. Great. And I love the holga feeling. But, as you, I don't want to spend too much. So I use a plug-in in Photoshop: melancholytron (http://www.flamingpear.com/melancholytron.html) that could simulate (to a certain extend) an holga.
ReplyDeleteI really love the double exposure...it just adds to the wonderful plethora of bicycles and color in your world. Glad you took that Holga for a spin...we'll see many more wonderful images from that box, I am sure.
ReplyDeleteah. bikes. first words I learned in Dutch: "Fiets kope?" [spelling?] :-)
ReplyDeleteI love them so much I got my Holga out, bought some 120 film and started shooting.
ReplyDeletethis two pictures are a real joy for the eye lynn. welcome to the world of traditional handmade (?) photography...
ReplyDeleteof course i have a slight preference for the one with the boats
look at the extremely selective sharpness and the softness of the colours, not to forget the typical vignetting i love so much
i really can feel a heartbeat in this image (and the bright side of your soul too)
congrats lynn!
I think these images are simply beautiful! Did you scan them yourself? If so -- tell me which scanner you're using! Really nice... I can't decide which one I like better -- I guess I love them equally - hope you don't mind! ... really really nice work...
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWell, two hits a roll isn't that bad, especially if you shoot a lot. I like these, especially the bicycles one. Lovely!
ReplyDeletethese are excellent shots. i particularly like the boat shot - surreal and calm, but a little spooky. intrique!
ReplyDeletevery cool shots, lynn! i hope to see more from your holga!
ReplyDeleteAh, boats are great.
ReplyDeleteSaw a lovely view with a boat Monday morning. One problem: I was in a TGV doing 300 k's. Not good as far as photography goes.
so lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely! I especially like the boats photo. As your other commenter so perfectly stated: "commonly photograhed, but not commonly captured." It's why I come here: for the uniqueness of your eye, not the subject matter.
ReplyDeleteBoth pics are unique, I specially like the one of the boats. I think both are worth an entire filmroll :)
