places that i hide

she lifts her spectacles slightly.
"it's the sun," she says, feeling foolish: "it's the sun, y'know, and the wind. this always happens."
she stumbles a smile, and fumbles for some softness to smoothe the unbidden bits of sadness out of sight.
her companion, aware of her true story, nods, and they sip, under the espaliered
lindens, in the brightness, and the breeze.

  1. Lovely image, Lynn. That dewdrop (or was it rain?) so perfectly captured just before it fell. Such serenity.

  4. Ah! This image captures what I feel when I think back to Thursday - a tenderness. And even now... all I can do is smile and nod, because I *do* understand....

  5. a dear friend of mine wrote a song that claims 'sadness and beauty are twins.' this post emulates that sentiment perfectly.
and 'espaliered lindens' is a wonderfully melodic phrase! thank you for that, lynn:)

  7. I think the saturation is wonderful... not only that -- but the shallow depth of field is great -- making for some really nice pastel colors in the background.... and, of course, I love the dew drop!...

  8. ~interesting presentation here, definitely not the 'norm' when it comes to floral shots; the DOF is darn appealing~
