love the one you're with

he's a still-waters-run-deep kind of cat, is basil, and i perceive his demeanor as stoic, although he has nothing, actually, to be stoic about. he is cherished by his owners, and when they're on holiday, like now, he is cherished by me.
caring for him, and caring for this little white house on the water, even for just a week, satisfies my soul: i wake up with the weight-watching bulk of a purring pussycat draped over my ankles, and the sights and sounds of morning amsterdam in the street below, and (though, i know, house- and cat-sitting is a serious responsibility) this is the perfect holiday, and i am content.

  7. Sometimes a little change of atmosphere can be just right. I love the light here, and a cat watching the world go by at the window is all the perspective you need.

  8. This picture really reflects my mood today. I've done nothing but lying on my bed staring out of the window, watching the world with my two cats by my side, both happily snoozing on my window sil, simply being content with the sun warming their backs.
A delightful and loving sight to watch for hours on end.

  12. Hi Lynn, My cat "Doerak" died 1,5 year ago. 17 years old, still miss him. I discovered he had a real life of his own, of which I knew nothing about. A woman, 3 streets away, once told me that Doerak used to pick up her cat for a walk by looking through her window, and sometimes tapping it. One day Doerak came to her house again, looking the woman in the eyes while mauwing all the time and walking backwards. It was obvious that he wanted her to follow him. So she did. Doerak than lead her to some bushes a few houses further down the road and there was her cat, dead. I heard this story about a year after it happened, and all that time I did not know that my cat had lost a friend. Zielig hHe was a special cat, the only cat I know with a nosejob. The vet removed a piece of his nose because of cancer, we than called him Michael for a while, but he would not listen to that name.
