to distraction

i haven't been (very) busy, nor have i been (very) ill, but i have been (very) absent, i know, and this (very) ordinary image is part of my excuse.
last sunday, after a dinner with dear friends, i came home with an unexpected
purchase: a large black trunk of excellent, and venerable, photographic gear - a couple of cameras, some lenses, and accessories, all of it around 30 years old, most of it in mint condition.
i've spent the whole week - natuurlijk - trying things out (it's been ages since i last owned an SLR) and this is one of the test results.
it works: i am so pleased...and, stuck in the routine monotony of unemployment, so ready for a bit of a new challenge.

  1. Hey, I don't think this image os ordinary. It shows a good use of DOF and I like the composition and colour combination. You have an exellent eye.

  3. ~as I read on your comment at my place, your first Nikon slr has been quickly put into action, now that is certainly something that brings a new challenge, and is will usher in a routine you will become addicted to, trust me!~

  4. I love your bike ;-) The touch of color and the good use of the DOF make for an interesting composition. I love the control that SLRs give, and the possibility to view with my own eyes through the lenses before shooting: you won't be disappointed.

  5. How exciting...a box of toys. And, the best part is (it sounds like) they have a history. Buying new, out of the box shiny stuff is good, but a trunk of treasures that now, through you, gets to live another life, is romantic and exciting. Have you read E. Annie Proulx's "Accordion Crimes"? If not, pick it up...you'll love it, and it reminds me of your new found equipment.
By the way, I like this simple photo...I smiled at it when I opened your page.

I love my bike.... This is a magical shot. I'm so proud this black trunk finally comes to use!!! I can see it's in good hands. I think I will come back soon to check if you keep up the good work.... Love from Els and me...

  9. Oh, but I love this image. And my bike as well, by the way.
Playing with camera's must be one of the better ways to break through that monotony, I guess. Are they good? Ran many films through already?
